Essent, a leading Dutch energy provider, needed a scalable way to promote solar energy using highly relevant, location-specific messaging, without relying on cookies. Traditional campaign setups couldn’t keep up with constantly changing weather conditions or the need for localized personalization. By implementing Cape.io’s creative automation, Essent built a dynamic, feed-based campaign powered by real-time weather data. Using a connected weather API, the brand automatically generates and updates nearly 400 creatives daily, calculating projected solar savings per location and displaying them across synchronized ad formats like leaderboards and skyscrapers. This setup enables continuous optimization, live creative adjustments, and fully automated campaign delivery via DV360 and Campaign Manager.
Challenge
Essent started using Cape Creative Automation for their new feed-based campaign.
In order to promote their green energy services, Essent needed highly relevant ads that appealed to their target audience. What is more transparent than showing realtime earnings based on the actual weather forecast of your location?
Essent promotes sustainable energy, particularly solar power, amid the rising importance of eco-friendly solutions. By highlighting specific locations and their relevant weather conditions, Essent assures customers of the sustainability and cost-effectiveness of solar energy. Essent needed these ads to be current, automated, and location-specific.
Solution
Now, Essent has a connected weatherfeed API that contains a list of cities with the accessory forecast for the upcoming days.
This includes: the total of hours the sun is shining, and the minimum and maximum temperature. Essent then calculates how much money their clients can save per day according to this forecast. The output feed is automatically refreshed every night, so the ads remain as up-to-date as possible, and can then be published to DV360 and/or Campaign Manager. Want to experiment with text or color variations? You can change these while the campaign is live, so you can track performance per variation.
Display variations include a leaderboard and skyscraper format, presenting interconnected ads on websites. The skyscraper features a thermometer displaying local temperature, while the leaderboard forecasts savings from solar energy over the next four days.
Results
Essent now saves a lot of hassle with almost 400 feed-based creatives that are automatically updated everyday.
An important result for display is that Essent now shows two different, but interconnected ads at once. Now there is also no need for multiple feeds to make things complicated, as they are both connected to the same feed that is updated daily.
